WINONA, Minn. – Of $3 billion that Minnesota will receive soon from a federal stimulus package passed last year, there will be substantial sums for Winona colleges and schools. State Representative Gene Pelowski, D-Winona, gave this preliminary breakdown:

> Winona State, $9 million.

> Saint Mary’s, $2 million.

> Southeast Tech, $1 million.

> Winona public schools, $1 million.

The funds are to help offset deficits caused by declining enrollment and CoVid safety expenses, Pelowski said in a KWNO radio interview. When the funds will arrive is uncertain, he cautioned. “We just don’t know how it’s going to be rolled out,” he said. “The assumption is this is going directly to those entities, but that’s not explained quite yet.”

Pelowski. Statewide $1 billion is earmarked for education and expanding broadband.
