ROCHESTER, Minn. — In response to damage at a picnic shelter at Mayo Park, authorities ushered bout 30 homless people away and told them to find elsewhere to stay. There was no resistance. City parks director Paul Widman said the city wants to be compassionate and understanding to those without a home, as well as those significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic but vandalism won’t be tolerated. The park, about four square blocks, is on the Zumbro River adjacent to the upscale downtown Mayo Civic Center.
