MASON CITY, Iowa —Construction of the world’s largest grain bin is expected to be completed in June south of the city. The bin will accommodate 2.2 million bushels of deliveries from north Iowa and southern Minnesota farmers. The bin will be 165 feet around and stand 155 feet tall. The owner, Golden Grain Energy of Mason City, believes the timing is right with post-pandemic travel creating a demand for grain-based ethanol. The bin will complement existing bins on site to combine for 30 days of storage, said chief executive Chad Kuhlers. The bin was designed by Sukup Manufacturing of Sheffield, Iowa.

How big? See the grain truck pulled up in front? Imagine 2,200 loads inside. A widebody 357-seat Boeing 767 could fit inside, albeit no inside room for take-offs and landings.
