WINONA, Minn. – The old YMCA reopened for members after a COVID-19 break that limited traditional services mostly to online fitness. Chief executive Janneke Sobeck said strict health and safety protocols will be in place. Also: Hours will be limited. During the virus shutdown, the Y loaned fitness equipment to members for virtual personal training. There were “well calls” to members, Sobeck said. The physical building, at the foot of the Interstate Bridge, hosted blood drives and served a homeless day shelter. The Y also was a Volunteer Services food drop and assisted with expanded Home Delivered Meals services. Meanwhile, construction is nearing completion of a replacement Y adjacent to the Winona Health campus at the lower Lake Winona.
