WINONA, Minn. – The athletic director at Winona State, Eric Schoh, notified the university’s athletes that football, golf, basketball, track and field are suspended through December 31 under a new Northern Sun conference decision. Schoh’s advice to his athletes: “Be laser-focused on your academics.” Also, he said, keep up individual training. The university will honor all athletic scholarship, Schoh said.  Also, he said, athletes will not lose a year of eligibility. What about Warrior gymnastics, which competes in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, not the Northern Sun? Gymnastics too is grounded, he said. Shoh said he was blindsided by the Northern Sun decision that reversed an earlier plan for dealing with the coronavirus. Up until Wednesday, he said, thought Winona State would still be playing some sort of schedule this fall.
