WINONA, Minn. – Sheriff Ron Ganrude announced his candidacy for a third four-year term. He is the first to announce.  Ganrude said he wants to stay in office until the new county  jail is up and going.  By Minnesota law sheriffs are nonpartisan officers. Ganrude worked his way up the ladder under former Sheriff Dave Brand for 16 years. In 2014, when Brand retired, Ganrude sought the position. He defeated former deputy Bill Spitzer of St. Charles 8,800 to 5,200. In 2018 Ganrude was unopposed for a second term. In announcing for a third term,  Ganrude was optimistic: “The past two years have been very trying for everyone in law enforcement, but I know that the future is bright for Winona County and I want to continue to be a part of it.”
