ST. PAUL, Minn. — Polls opened at 7 a.m. across southern Minnesota to narrow the race for the MN-1 congressional seat to four. The ballot has 20 candidates – 10 Republicans, eight Democrats, and two members of lesser parties. The four winners will be on an August 9 ballot to determine who goes to Washington. The winner then will serve in Congress until January 3, when the 118th Congress convenes. Whoever holds the interim MN-1 seat has a presumed advantage to be elected in November to a full two-year 118th term, although historically it hasn’t always worked our that way.
