ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, Matt Birk, told his Twitter followers that he and Democratic Governor Tim Walz would meet Friday. Asked about the meeting, a Walz aide said it was the first the governor had heard about any meeting. It all seemed bizarre. Birk is a former professional football player who is the running mate of GOP gubernatorial candidate Scott Jensen. In Twitter, Birk said:

“Things have gotten pretty heated as of late. So I decided to be the bigger man. I reached out to Walz. He agreed to meet with me tomorrow morning. Hoping we can find common ground and move forward. Stay tuned.”

Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flangan said she too was unaware that any meeting had been arranged. Certainly not with her she said;.
