WASHINGTON — Amtrak plans to reduce most long-distance daily service, including the Chicago-West Coast train through Winona, to three-day-a-week service on October 1. The company blamed ridership and revenue losses due to the pandemic. Long-distance ticket revenue losses, including the Empire Builder through Winona, climbed 71%, from $6.8 million to $11.6 million, between April and May. In an internal message, Executive Vice President, Roger Harris told employees that the company hopes to restore daily service as demand warrants, potentially by the summer of 2021.
