MADISON, Wis. – The state wildlife agency confirmed that a strain of the highly contagious avian flu has been identified in wild birds in the state. Samples have been found in a Cooper’s hawk in Dane Columbia, a bald eagle in Columbia County, a red-tailed hawk in Grant County, a Canada goose in Milwaukee County and a trumpeter swan Polk County. The disease is not a problem for humans but can wipe out commercial poultry flocks.
