MADISON, Wis. — For the third time in a week, a major candidate in the Democratic primary for the U.S Senate dropped out. State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski ended her campaign and endorsed frontrunner Mandela Barnes. Her decision gave Barnes a clear shot to face incumbent Republican Senator Ron Johnson in November. To her Twitter followers, Godlewski said: “Over a year ago I got in this race to beat Ron Johnson and return this Senate seat to the people of Wisconsin. Today, the only thing that has changed is how we get there. If we want to send Ron Johnson packing, we need to get behind and fight together..” Also quitting the primary race this week and allying around Mandela this week were:
> Alex Lasry, a Milwaukee Buckes executive.
> Tom Nelson, a former state legislator.
Because the decisions to drop came so late, within two weeks of the primary, all the names will appear on the ballot. So too will the name of community organizer Steven Olikara and several candidates who have been only blips in polls.
