ROSEVILLE, Minn. – A Republican candidate for governor, Scott Jensen, a Chaska physician, called for Minnesota to become a “constitutional carry state.” That means he favors legislation to allow citizens to carry handguns without a permit. Jensen, a consistent far-tight-winger, offered this explanation: “If my daughter had her two kids in the back seat and at a stoplight someone came with a hammer and started to hammer out the window so that they could take her car, I would want her to be able to pick up a gun in the console and shoot the bastards.” It wasn’t clear how Jensen sees an unlicensed gun as better than a licensed gun in such a scenario. Six states have laws like Jensen espoused. He was speaking on the campaign trail.

Jensen. Served in State Senate 2017-2021. He didn’t seek a second term.
