WASHINGTON – Congressman Jim Hagedorn, R-Minn., suspended all constituent mail in the wake of exorbitant spending on mailers to constituents. Hagedorn said that no contracts will be awarded without preapproval from the House committees and authorities, which are considering an ethics investigation. Meanwhile, Hagedorn rehired a staffer, John Sample. It was to a Sample-owned company that $100,000 was spent for mailers. Sample has agreed to reimburse the office $16,500 for “inadvertent” charges from the company. There has been no indication that second staffer, Peter Su, who was also fired for a deal with a second contractor, will be rehired. Su was Hagedorn’s chief of staff.
