MINNEAPOLIS — A judge rejected journalists’ request to record pre-trial proceedings for four police officers charged in the death of George Floyd. Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill sided with prosecutors not to allow cameras. It is a general courtroom practice in Minnesota to bar cameras if either prosecuting or defense attorneys object. The judge will decide in the future whether to allow cameras at trials themselves. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, who’s leading the prosecution, said cameras at pre-trial proceedings would create problems because attorneys might pander to news audiences. Also, Ellison said, there is a possibility of witness contamination. Meanwhile, Derek Chauvin remains jailed with under$1.2 million bond and Tou Thao $750,000. Thomas Lane and Alexander Kueng have been free on bond.
