RIPON, Wis. – To a gathering of 50 supporters, Vice President Mike Pence attacked the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Joe Biden, as no friend of police. “Joe Biden would weaken the thin blue line that separates order from chaos,” Pence said. “Under President Donald Trump, we will stand with those who stand on the thin blue line, and we will never defund the police.” To his mostly white audience, Pence called it a “false choice” to think of 2020 as a choice is between supporting police and supporting Black people. “Under President Donald Trump, we will support law enforcement, improve public safety, and stand with African-American families and all our minorities to improve quality of life, he said” Pence spoke 30 minutes. The speech was limited to 50 people because of the coronavirus pandemic. Attendees had their temperatures checked at the door, wore face masks, and sat 6 feet apart.
