UTE, Iowa – A crop-dusting plane hit a power line and crashed on a road, killing the pilot. A witness said the plane was spraying when it crashed and burned. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. Sheriff Jeffery R. Pratt declined to release the pilot’s name immediately. The registered owner of the plan in federal records plane, an Air Tractor AT-502A, was the Bank of Utah of Salt Lake City. The accident was about 1:10 p.m. Sheriff Pratt said Teak Avenue south of Ute likely would be closed through the weekend.
Air Tractor 500. A widely used plane designed for agricultural spraying. First flew in 1951. The 500 series was built from 1986 to 1995.
