PINE ISLAND, Minn. — Police took a man into custody after a 10-hour stand-off in a southeast Pine Island neighborhood. Authorities did not release the man’s name immediately. The stand-off began when the man claimed to be armed and to have hostages. It ended up, however, that the man was alone. Police had been summoned to Sprie Court Southeast about 10:45 a.m. The man inside shouted threats at police and at points threatened suicide. Goodhue County deputies were summoned, as were SWAT units from 20 miles away in Rochester and from 30 miles away in Red Wing. Five blocks were blocked off. A stay-in-place order went out to neighbors. Police negotiators repeatedly urged the man to come out and was promised help at a hospital. After almost 10 hours, about 8:20 p.m., the man gave up.
