ROCHESTER, Minn. – Crews have erected rigging on the landmark corn cob water tower at the now-razed Seneca canning plant to restore its original luster. The tower, on the Rochester South End, is going on the National Register of Historic Places as a relic of the Great Depression. Back then the tower was on postcards and in magazines for its novelty.

Only the cob remains. The south Rochester cannery has had many owners over the decades. Most recently it canned Seneca’s Libby products.
