ST. PAUL, Minn. — Legislators and everybody else will go through metal detectors to enter the state Capitol starting Tuesday when the 2026 Legislature convenes. Consultants recommended the change after the assassination of House Speaker Melissa Hortman at her home last spring and related shooting death on a state senator the same night. Minnesota had been one of only a few state capitols not to require weapons screening.
