WINONA, Minn. – State Senator Jeremy Miller saved a man from drowning in Lake Winona after a sudden gust flipped the man’s canoe. Miller had been fishing with his sons at the Visitor Center pier off Huff Street. Miller saw the canoe flip and the man calling for help, Miller jumped in, grabbed the man, and swam him safely to shore. A woman in the cane, wearing a life jacket, made it to snore on her own, police said. The man, not wearing a life jacket, tried the to right the canoe and hang on but was wearing out. On shore, people saw what was happening and called 911.

So we were just about to leave, but my boys were having so much fun we decided to stick it out. Shortly after that is when I noticed that a canoe was flipped over. I didn’t even think about it, I didn’t even tell my boys to stay put or anything, I just trusted them to know the severity of the situation and they did.
