ST. PAUL, Minn. – The state Natural Resources Department has extended the deer season in areas where it needs to trim the deer population further because of chronic wasting disease. Hunting dates among zones vary but include December .7-19 and December 31-January 2, \Jan. 2. Hunters may use any unfilled archery, firearms, muzzle-loader or landowner deer hunting license, but there are numerous restrictions. In all cases, chronic-waste sampling is mandatory. Among sites in southeast Minnesota:

> Beaver Creek Valley State Park: In Fillmore County. Permit required.

> Cannon River Turtle Reserve Scientific and Natural Area: In Goodhue County. No permit required. Only portions Permit Area 605.

> Forestville Mystery Cave State Park: Permit required.

> Great River Bluffs State Park: Near Nodine. Permit required.

> Kings and Queens Scientific and Natural Area. Near Lamoille. Permit required.

> Pin Oak Prairie Scientific and Natural Area: Near Chatfield. Permit required.

> Rushford Sand Barrens Scientific and Natural Area: No permit required.
