BARRON, Wis. – An Amish teenager was injured fatally when his horse-drawn buggy was struck by a pickup. Barron Cunty Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald declined to release the boy’s name. A second boy in the buggy, age 16, was less seriously hurt. The sheriff’s office received a call from a Rice Lake man, Anthony Anderson, 40, at 6:18 p.m. that he was involved in a buggy crash. At the scene, on Highway M north of Rice Lake, deputies found the 17-year-old buggy driver unconscious but breathing. He was taken to an Eau Claire hospital and later died. A buggy passenger, age 16, suffered minor injuries. Deputies said the buggy was in splinters beside of the road, the horse dead. Anderson hit the northbound buggy after dark from behind even though, deputies said, the buggy had operating rear lights.
