WINONA, Minn. – The old College of Tersa, which closed in 1989 after 95 years, had some touches of a finishing school for young ladies. From “The Teresan Book of Table Manners”:
> Unfold napkin to half its size and lay it on the table.
> Never rest arms or elbows on the table.
> Do not touch the water glass, silver or toy with napkin before the meal is served.
> Never blow on a beverage to reduce its temperature.
> Never use a toothpick in the presence of another person.
There were also room regulations:
> Draw the shades as soon as the room is lighted.
> Sit at a distance from windows that face the street.
> Do not sit on beds (a fine will be imposed).
