MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A grand jury indicted a suburban Grafton dentist with messing up patients’ teeth so could cash in on insurance reimbursements. The charges accuse Scott Charmoli, 60, on eight counts of health care fraud and two counts of false statements. He could go to jail for 20 years and be fined $250,000. The criminal complaint says Charmoli told patients that they needed crowns and then used his drill to break off parts of their teeth during the procedure. Charmoli submitted X-rays and photographs of the chipped teeth to insurance companies to obtain coverage for the crowns, the indictment says.
