BLUE EARTH, Minn. – A state lawsuit against a Winnebago venue for a New Year’s Eve gathering seeks an injunction through January 10. The suit was filed in Faribault County District Court against Veteran Enterprises, the entity that owns the Carlson Event Center in nearby Winnebago. Besides seeking an injunction, the suit asks a judge to fine the entity and award damages to the state. The premise of the suit is advertising for a “New Year’s Eve bash” with a live band. The flier said that all ages were welcome. Admission:  $25.

Crowding the issue

In a statement from St. Paul, state Attorney General Keith Ellison said: “When a business irresponsibly opens to the public to throw a dance party, their insistence on violating the law is simply prolonging the pain of the pandemic for everyone,” Attorney General Keith Ellison said in a statement.” Ellison was referring to a governor’s order against large gatherings that could further the spread of CoVid.

Origins of suit

A tipster alerted Ellison’s office about being hired to advertise the event on social media.
