ST. PAUL, Minn. – A pre-dawn fire destroyed a downtown construction site near the Xcel Energy arena. An upscale hotel-apartment complex, called Seven Corners Gateway, was going up at the site. Firefighters got the call at 4:20 a.m. Part of the structure had already collapsed. Flames soared 200 feet and lit the sky and could be seen for miles. No injuries were reported. The Gateway plan was for a six-story, 144-unit apartment building and a five-story, 120-room hotel, all on 2.4-acres, with underground parking, commercial space and a public plaza.
