ST. PAUL, Minn. – Secretary of State Steve Simon commended the 2021 Legislature for “bipartisan breakthroughs” for administering elections. Simon cited new standards for ballot drop boxes: “As more and more Minnesota voters choose to vote early by absentee ballot, they will certainly appreciate the security and convenience that drop boxes now provide.” There will be statewide consistency, he said. Simon also cited these new security measures:

> Continuous video recording of absentee voting

> Precautions to prevent ballot removal or tampering.

> Security against weather damage.

> Emptying of ballots at least once per business day.
