ST.PAUL, Minn. – State Representative John Thompson D-St. Paul, was cited for driving after his driving privileges had been revoked, it was learned belatedly. It was July 4 when police pulled over Thompson for missing a front license plate. Thompson presented a Wisconsin driver license despite his Minnesota residency and that he holds office from State House District 67A in St. Paul. Why not a Minnesota license? Records showed that Johnson’s driving privileges had been revoked because of a child support issue. The St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that Thompson never had a Minnesota license and that that, even so, the state can revoke driving privileges anyway. Thompson told the newspaper that he has just kept renewing the Wisconsin license, apparently for 18 years. He said he didn’t know his privileges were revoked, and that the child support issue was old and settled.
