MADISON, Wis. — State wildlife officials have proposed limiting the number of wolves that hunters can kill this fall to 130 animals. It’s an attempt to recover from an overkill forced by the Republicans in the State Senate last winter, when 218 wolves were in just four days. The new state Natural Resources proposal goes before its governing board in August. The conservative proposal, from the DNR staff, is designed to help understand impact of February’s overkill.
