WINONA, Minn. – The Winona School Board settled on a mixed fall schedule with students in classrooms two days a week and distance-learning the rest. The hybrid model divides student into either a Monday-Tuesday bloc or Thursday-Friday bloc. Wednesday will be a day for cleaning and disinfecting buildings. Preschool programs are already using a hybrid model. Superintendent Annette Freiheit said trhat families will have the option to switch entirely to distance learning at any point, no questions asked. Free child care will be provided for the children of Tier 1 emergency workers on the distance learning days in the hybrid model, Freiheit said. The split sessions were based on parameters developed by the state health and education departments to deal wit coronavirus exigencies, she said. School opens September 8. Freiheit said, however, that the unpredictability of the pandemic could force a change at any point.
