ROCHESTER, Minn. – A right-wing group that wants to expunge race as a factor in American history has targeted Rochester schools with a massive request for curricular data. The group, Equality in Education, asked for all curricular materials related in any way to “equity, social justice, cultural competency, race, intersectionality, or CRT.” Critical race theory, sometimes called CRT, has become a right-wing rallying point to ban schools from indoctrinating students that race has shaped American history significantly. The claim of school indoctrination has been discredited everywhere that the facts-be-damned right-wing biosphere has incited protests and harassed school board member in recent months. The demand for Rochester school documents came through a Twin Cities law firm, Mohrman, Kaardahl Erikson. A firm associate, attorney Nick Morgan, signed the 41-page demand, which was addressed to acting School Superintendent Kent Pekel. Demanded were documents from all 42 Rochester schools for the past two years. Specified as a deadline to comply was December 15. The law firm cited the Minnesota Data Practices Act in demanding the materials.
