MINNEISKA, Minn. – Two teen-age girls were apprehended after a 14-mile police chase that began near Kellogg and ended on a curvy back road south of Minneiska. The girls, both 15, were from 70 miles away in the Eau Claire area. Neither was old enough drive legally. Apparently they had crossed from Wisconsin at Wabasha and headed south on Highway 61. In the dark they got the wrong lane of the divided highway. An alarmed motorist called police. A deputy spotted the car parked on the shoulder with its lights off. As the deputy approached, the car sped off. Light flashing, the deputy pursued. The car went faster. South of Minneiska, the car turned up the bluffs on Whitman Deering Drive. Other police intercepted the vehicle where it becomes seasonally impassable. The driver was booked for fleeing police and driving without a license. Her companion was identified tentatively as a runaway. Where did the car? Stay tuned.
