HIXTON, Wis. – A mine worker at the giant Wisconsin Proppants open-pit drowned in a back pond. Tony M. Killian, 44, of Fairchild, was doing maintenance on a large pump in the pond when the pump rolled and pinned him underwater. The body was recovered from 12 feet of water. The accident was about 9:30 a.m. The mine is on Garfield Road on the bluffs six miles west of Hixton.
