WINONA, Minn. – Firefighters controlled a brush and grass fire on the Latsch Island side of Highway 43 midstream in the Mississippi River. Uncontrolled, the fire had burned into a deadhead tree threatened to burn into a forest. This was about 11 p.m. While there, the fire crew spotted a large fire near the sand pile at the entrance to Dick’s Marina. It was a recreational fire tended to by several teenagers. They were told to just make sure the fire was completely out before leaving.
