PRESTON, Minn. – Police agencies statewide are sending unused ballistic and tactical equipment to Ukraine to fight the Russian invasion. The Fillmore County donation included 28 ballistic and tactical vests and 25 helmets, Sheriff John DeGeorge said. He delivered the gear himself to the southern Minnesota collection point in Owatonna. The vests, worn by deputies, are replaced by grant funding every few years, DeGeorge said. “They are in good condition and in our testing, retain their level of protection many years beyond,” he said. “We have kept this gear for years in case it is needed.”
