WINONA, Minn. – Police say that Divontay Maurice Pinkerton, 27, led them on a car and foot chase through a busy East End shopping and hospital area as well as a residential neighborhood Wednesday afternoon before, finally, he was found inside as Liberty Street house and arrested. Police gave this account:
> At 3:54 p.m. an officer near Sarnia and Mankato, who knew Pinkerton’s driving permit had been revoked, spotted him driving a tan Dodge Durango.
> Pinkerton turned onto Sarnia, quicly turned k turn into a parking lot in the 750 block of East Sarnia, then jumped out of the vehicle and looked about to flee on foot, but the officer ordered Pinkerton to get back into the vehicle, which he did.
> Approaching the car, the officer smelled marijuana. The officer briefly stepped away, at which pint Pinkerton took off onto Sarnia and hent south on Mankato at more than 60 mph – a 30 zone.
> Pinkerton turned onto Highway 61, but quickly turned onto Parks Avenue.
< Meanwhile, other squad cars joined the pursuit.
>Pinkerton got back onto Mankato, ran a red light, and proceeded north.
>As he approached Winona Health, Pinkerton drove into the southbound lane while continuing north.
> Police, who then decided to follow Pinkerton at a distance, saw him turn back onto Sarnia and then north onto Hamilton Street, where they lost him.
> Police then received a report from the 350 block of East 10th Street that a black male in black clothing and carrying a black backpack had parked a tan Dodge Durango in the middle of the street and run away.
> Police set up a perimeter.
>Someone else alerted police Street someone looking like Pinkerton’s had entered a house in the 450 block of Liberty
>Pinkerton was apprehended at the house.
Police reported finding 13.6 grams of a marijuana in Pinkerton’s backpack, as well as, multi-color ecstasy pills, and a wax-like marijuana substance scattered around.
In all the zig-zag pursuit covered 1.4 miles, police said.
