ST. PAUL, Minn. – Most news about the 2022 Legislature focused on the drama over how to spend $9 billion in unexpected tax revenue. The answer: Nothing, There was no agreement. But the Legislature did enough legislating to fill a four-page report. A few new laws that became effective August 1:
> Steeper fines for off-highway vehicle drivers and snowmobilers for violations and trespass — to $250 for a first offense, $500 for a second, and $,1000 for a third.
> Allowing victims of domestic violence, harassment or stalking to list a P.O. box as their address in legal documents that are available to the public.
> Continuing eligibility for National Guard soldiers for reenlistment and commissioning bonuses.
> Long-term care insurance will be allowed to be sold as part of a life insurance policy.
> The courts must assign a guardian to anyone ages 18 to 21 if at risk of trafficking or abuse.
