EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Silver Mine Hill ski jump that towers over the Chippewa River downstream from Eau Claire will be out of service this winter. Dan Mattoon, who organizes events at the jump, said the wood deck on top of the steel run has deteriorated and needs replacing. The steel structure itself remains structurally sound, he said. The run has a K-point of 279 feet atop the ridge — K-point being a translation of the German measure Kritical, the steepest part before the slope begins to flatten out
