PORTAGE, Wis. – A Wisconsin Dells man charged in a plot to kidnap the governor of Michigan was released from jail on $10,0000 bond. The county prosecutor had asked that Brian P. Higgins, 51 be kept in jail on $1 million bond. The other side argued that evidence against Higgins was thin, and Judge Todd Hepler set the bond at $10,000. A hearing on whether to extradite Higgins to Michigan was scheduled for November 18. Higgins is among 14 men accused in a vigilante plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and try her for treason. Michigan authorities say that Higgins provided night-vision goggles and used a dash cam to surveil the governor’s summer residence.
