BALDWIN, Wis. — A 70-year-old man died after he drove his minivan through a flood-covered road and went into a ditch. Gary Parent, of nearby Emerald, Wisconsin, was rescued from the submerged vehicle but later died. Rainfall measured as much as 8.2 inches. In the Baldwin area at least five motorists were rescued from the roofs of their flooded vehicles on Highway 63. Also, eight families were evacuated from houses in Baldwin itself. Many roads and bridges were impassable. Near Ellsworth, localized flooding covered sections of U.S. Highway 10. In southwest Wisconsin, near Spring Valley, Highway 29 was closed.
