A place to visit and ponder

WINONA, Minn. – A white-flag display, one flag for every lost in the 2001 terrorist attacks was placed by Winona firefighters in the shape of 9/11 adjacent to the permanent 9/11 memorial in Lake Park, just past the Visitor’s Center on Huff Street. The city arts coordinator, Lee Gundershimer, said the tribute of flags will remain in place until Friday. On Saturday the Fire Department flanked Huff Street with American flags hanging from ladder trucks, also a silent tribute. Separately there will be a tribute at 6 p.m., Saturday, by the Little Warrior Drumline at the the season’s final Lake Park Drive-in Music and Movies event at the bandshell.  The event is free.
