MADISON, Wis. — Two Wisconsin legislators want to make defacing or destroying statues a felony. Rep. Rob Hutton, R-Brookfield, and Sen. Tim Carpenter, D-Milwaukee, are co-sponsors. Carpenter was physically attacked by protesters outside the Capitol in June while they were tearing down a statue of abolitionist hero Hans Christian Heg. The protestors also toppled the “Forward” statue that symbolized the state motto.
