WASHINGTON – Threats by Republican right-extemists in the U.S. House to shut down the government were averted when the House leader, Speaker Kevin McCarty, engineered a 45-day extension to keep federal agencies open. The vote waa 335-91. The bill was quickly endorsed 88-9 by the Senate and signed by President Biden.
