MADISON, Wis. – A former UW-Madison chancellor, Rebecca Blank, died from cancer. She was 67. She left UW-Madison in 2022 to become president of Northwestern University but didn’t make the move after an aggressive cancer was diagnosed. In her nine years in charge at UW-Madison, commencements returned to Camp Randall stadium and the Bucky’s tuition program began for low-income students. She was a senior staff member on economics to President George H.W. Bush. She also was an adviser to President Clinton. She oversaw the 2010 U.S census and was later deputy secretary of commerce.
