ST. PAUL, Minn. – A legislative candidate who exploded with vulgar street talk at a suburban rally, John Thompson, apologized. “Inflammatory rhetoric” is not how he wants to be known, Thompson said. Thompson is a recently Democratic-endorsed candidate for House District 67A. He led a Black Lives Matter protest Saturday outside the suburban home of the Minneapolis police union president. The crowd chanted “Fuck the Police.” Thompson’s own anti-police rhetoric, magnified with a bullhorn, was laced with a stream of profane expletives, all within easy earshot of children in the neighborhood. Thompson’s apology posted online:”I want to make a positive difference, and my comments on Saturday were not helpful. Inflammatory rhetoric is not how I want to address the important issues we’re facing, and I apologize.”
