WINONA, Minn. – The City Council made it official. The appointment of 25-year City Hall veteran Chad Ubl as city manager was approved. Ubl has been in the position in an interim since Octber when the Council and City Manager Steve Sarvi, had a falling-out over vexatious budget priorities.

Ubl grew ip in New Um and had a job with the city Parks Department. He came to Winona in 1997 to pursue a recreation degree at Winona State University and started part-time with the city the Park and Recreation Department. He became community services director in 2006 and managed the Public Library, Senior Friendship Center, and the Masonic Temple Building. He was less an office man than out on the job, going from one agency building to another to follow a range of projects. In 2016 Ubl moved to assistant city manager under Steve Sarvi. Ubl and his wife have three children, age 19, 5 and 12. Yes, they’re heavily involved in swimming and other park-rec activities.
