WINONA, Minn.— The City Council voted unanimously to pursue winning a place  for  the Lake Park Bandshell on the National Registry of Historic Places. The assistant city planner, Luke Simsopf the Winona Heritage Preservation Commission, asked for $2,000. That appropriation, plus a $4,500 grant from other sources, would get the application started. The likelihood of achieving the historic status is good, Sims said. If the designation is approved in 2024, it would be on the bandshell’s 100th anniversary, Sims noted. Already 46 Winona sites are already on the register. Among them:

> Choate Department Store, 51 East Third, 1881.

> St. Stanislaus Basilica, 83 Main Street, 1869.

> East Second Street commercial block, late 1860s.

> Exchange Building, 51 East Fourth Street, 1900.

> Huff-Lamberton House, 207 Huff Street, 1873.

Under consttuction 1923.. Nobody’s kept track of how many concerts, orations and other events have taken place in the shell.
