DENVER, Colo. — The Colorado Supreme Court declared former President Donald Trump ineligible to be on the state’s ballots because the U.S. Constitution forbids insurrectionists from the presidency. The ruling contrasts with a Minnesota Supreme Court decision in November that said state political party can put anyone they want on primary ballots. The Trump ballot issue is before courts in several states and is expected to go the U.S. Supreme Court. The Colorado decision was 4-3 in a 200-page opinion. In effect the decision categorizes Trump as a traitor for inciting the January 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Colorado Supreme Court: “We do not reach these conclusions lightly. We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us. We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.”
