WINONA, Minn. – A camper on Prairie Island called 911 during the night that the Mississippi River was on fire. Not so, said deputies who responded. The “fire” was fishermen in a boat using lights to attract carp. Nothing illegal about it – or dangerous, the deputies said. Arguments on whether lights attract fish are legendary in fishing lore. Do green lights work better than white? Do submersible lights work better? Or do lights work at all? And, ask purists, is it a sporting way to go about fishing? No carp were available for interviews.
