WASHINGTON – It’s called a “congressional” – a dreaded term on military circles. It means a member of Congress has received a complaint about lapses – like mistreatment and abuse — and wants answers. Congress members Gwen Moore and Ilhan Omar, both Minnesota Democrats, have asked the Pentagon to investigate claims of mistreatment of Afghan refugees at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin. Moore and Omar reported that families lacked access to basic necessities. There has been documentation of nutritional lapses and refugees going hungry. Fort McCoy is one of eight U.S. military bases. that is temporarily housing refugees from Afghanistan.
